Chapter 16: The Claiming

I don't remember crossing the courtyard.

I remember his hand locked around mine, and the crowd parting without a word, and the old elder looking carefully at the sky.

The door of the Alpha's rooms slammed behind us hard enough to shake the frame.

Finlay had me against it before the echo died.

"Linnea."

"Don't talk," I said. "Please don't talk."

I dragged his mouth down to mine.

It wasn't a kiss.

It was starving, all teeth and breath, and his hands were in my hair and mine were tearing at his shirt.

Buttons hit the floorboards and skipped away.

The heat in my belly was so fierce it hurt, and the only thing in the world that eased it was his skin.

I pressed my palms flat on his chest, and he shuddered under them.

"Mine," he said against my mouth, and it came out half a growl. "You're mine."

"Then take me."

He lifted me and carried me to the bed in three strides.

He dropped me on the sheets, and I watched him strip off the rest of his clothes with shaking, bandaged hands.

He was hard already, thick and flushed, and I wanted him in my mouth so badly my own jaw ached.

I sat up, grabbed his hips and pulled him to the edge of the mattress.

"Linnea, I won't last..."

"I don't care."

I took him in my mouth.

He swore, long and low, and his hand fell into my hair.

I sucked him deep, and slid my tongue along the underside, and I felt him go rigid with the effort of staying still.

"Fuck. That's it. Just like that."

I looked up at him while I did it, and his eyes were black and wild and fixed on my face.

His hips jerked once, and I moaned around him, and the sound made him shake.

He pulled me off by the hair, gently, but without any room for argument.
