Chapter 17: Overruled

The suite door closed behind us, and I pushed him against it.

He made a low sound in his chest, and his good hand went to my waist.

I did not wait for him to ask.

I kissed him hard, with my fingers in his hair and my whole weight against him.

He kissed me back hungrily, and he did not hold anything in.

His mouth was hot and rough, and it tasted of the coffee he had not finished.

I bit his lower lip and he groaned.

"Claire."

"Don't talk."

"Audrey left a note under the door."

"I don't care."

He bent and picked it up anyway, with one arm still around me.

It said, in Audrey's neat hand: Your appointment is confirmed. Do not be early.

I laughed against his mouth, and he did too, and it turned into another kiss.

I pulled his shirt up over his head.

His chest was warmer than I remembered, and his heart was going hard against my palm.

I put my mouth on the place where it beat, and felt him shake.

"Look at me," I said.

He looked.

His eyes were dark and wide, and he did not hide a thing.

"Whatever I say," I said, "you do."

"Yes."

"Terms say no contact except through lawyers."

His lips curved.

"Overruled," he said.

"Good."

I backed him to the bed and shoved him down on it.

He lay there, breathing fast, with the bandaged hand held up out of the way.

I took off my jacket and let it fall.

I took off my blouse more slowly.

His eyes went over me, and his throat moved.

"Keep going," he said hoarsely.

"I will."

I unhooked my bra and dropped it, and I heard him say my name under his breath.

I climbed over him and knelt astride his hips.

I could feel how hard he already was through his trousers.

I rocked once, slowly, against him, and his head went back on the pillow.

"Fuck."

"Hands on the headboard."

"I have one good one."

"Then use it."

He put his hand above his head and wrapped it round a slat of the headboard.

I bent and took his mouth again while I opened his belt.

My fingers were not steady.

I did not care if he saw.

I pushed his trousers down and took him in my hand, and he made a sound I had not heard from him in five years.
