Nobody in the kitchen moved.
The toast popped up in the toaster, and all three of us flinched.
Corinna had her hand over her mouth.
"Sullivan, please," she said. "Let me tell you the rest."
"I heard the rest."
He still hadn't looked at me.
"I stood in a kitchen doorway like a man at his own trial, and the only person in the room who didn't know the verdict was me."
"I'm sorry."
"You're a great many things." He said it without heat. "I'll tell you which ones when I can do it without shouting."
Then he looked at me, and the question came out plain.
"Was any of it yours?"
It was a fair question, and it hit like one.
"The terrace was mine," I said. "Every word of it. I took that key card out of my own clutch."
"The ninety seconds I waited before I followed you were mine."
"And the room?"
