"What do you want to call me?" I asked him.
He didn't answer that morning.
He said he had to think, and a real answer had to be in writing.
Then he made me promise not to ask him again.
I kept the promise for four months.
On a Tuesday in March, a year almost to the day after I signed at the yellow flags, I stood up in family court.
My first client sat beside me.

The husband's lawyer had a doctor's letter. Patient anxious. Patient tearful.
