Chapter 2: Orders and a Scenario
He didn't text me the next day, or the day after that.
I checked my phone under the desk for an entire lecture on Balzac.
At the library, I reread our few lines of conversation and thought how ridiculous it was, because there was nothing there.
On the third night, at exactly ten p.m., my phone vibrated.
"Master D."
"Good evening, Master D," I replied, and my heart started pounding again.
"You waited."
"No, Master D."
"You're lying. You stared at your screen all day. I don't blame you for that, but I don't want lies between us."
I set my book down.
I didn't know what to say, so I told the truth.
"I waited."
"Good."
That single word went right through me, all the way to my knees.
"You're eighteen, according to your ad. You're an adult, a student, and you live alone. Is that true?"
"Yes, Master D."
"Send me your student ID tomorrow, with your name and face covered. I only want to see your date of birth."
I sat up straighter on my bed.
"Why?"
"Because I don't touch a girl I can't verify. You'll do what I tell you, or you won't. But you won't ask me why."
I felt embarrassment rise, then something else behind it, something like relief.
The others had never asked me to.
I sent him a photo of the card, my fingers covering the name and face, the date perfectly clear, and his reply came before I'd even put my phone down.
"Eighteen since March. Thank you."
He'd thanked me, even though he hadn't said a single "please."
"Now, listen," he wrote.
"I don't want your photo tonight. You're used to sending them to everyone, and that makes you easy."
"Tonight, I'm going to tell you a story, and you won't do anything until I tell you to."
I crossed my legs tightly under the blanket and wrote back, "Yes, Master D."
He began.
It was a scenario, written in short sentences, like a command.
I'm an intern at his architecture firm. It's Friday night, and all the employees have left.
He makes me stay because of a mistake I made in a file.
He doesn't look at me. He's reading a paper when he tells me to close the door.
I close the door.
He tells me to stand in front of his desk, hands behind my back, and repeat after him that I'm a stupid little girl.
Every line that appeared on the screen tightened my stomach a little more.
"Repeat it here, now. The whole thing."
I typed it.
"I'm a stupid little girl, Master D."
"Again."
I typed it again, and he added one sentence after another, each dirtier than the last, each in a calm tone.
He said the intern's throat tightened, that she could feel her pussy throbbing in her panties.
He said her thighs were trembling, and he hadn't even moved yet.
He didn't move.
That was what drove me crazy, the stillness in his words.
I bit my fist to keep my hand from moving.
"You're hot," he wrote.
"Yes, Master D."
"You're soaked."
"Yes."
"You can say, 'Yes, Master D.' Not just 'yes.'"
"Yes, Master D."
"In the scenario, I stand up. I walk around the desk. I put my hand on the back of your neck and bend you forward."
I bent over the pillow without meaning to.
"I lift your skirt. I don't touch you. I look at your wet panties and tell you you're a disgrace."
My hips moved against the mattress all by themselves.
"Master D," I wrote, my fingers trembling, "please."
I'd never written those words to anyone before.
There was a silence so long I thought I'd lost him.
Then my phone rang. An incoming call, from a hidden number.
I answered without breathing.
"You're the one who wrote 'please,'" said a very low voice, deep and unhurried.
"I haven't given you permission to ask yet."
It was the first time I'd heard his voice, and my body reacted before my mind did.
A shiver ran down my back, and a little sound escaped me.
"You just moaned in my ear," he said.
"I'm sorry, Master D."
"Stay on the phone. Are you lying down?"
"Yes."
"Take off your panties. Keep your bodysuit on. You put it on, I know. Spread your knees."
I obeyed, eyes closed, the phone wedged between my shoulder and my ear.
"Put two fingers at the entrance. Only at the entrance. Don't move."
I didn't move.
I could hear his breathing, slow and steady, the breathing of a man who didn't need to touch me to hold me in place.
"You're in my office, little intern. You're at my feet. You're going to listen to me, apologize for your mistake, and you are not allowed to come."
"I'm sorry, Master D," I whispered.
"Louder."
"I'm sorry, Master D. I'm a stupid little girl."
"Again."
I said it three times.
The third time, my hand slipped inside on its own. I couldn't stop it, and I came all at once, crying out the only name he'd given me.
"Master D."
I stayed there, panting, my hand still down there, my skin burning.
He didn't say anything anymore.
I heard one breath, just one, and it wasn't amused.
"I told you that you weren't allowed."
"I couldn't help it, Master D."
"You couldn't help it, or you didn't want to?"
I opened my eyes to the ceiling of my studio apartment.
"I didn't want to," I admitted.
"Thank you for not lying," he said.
There was something new in his voice, something that was neither anger nor tenderness.
"You just disobeyed me after ten minutes. For a first offense, I'll forgive you."
"But not a second time."
He fell silent for a second, then added without raising his voice, "Tomorrow night, you write me your list."
"What list, Master D?"
"Everything you're okay with, everything you refuse, everything you want to try. Every single item. I won't touch you until I've read it."
He hung up without saying good night.
I stayed motionless for a long time, my panties at the foot of the bed and my heart in disarray.
That night, for the first time, I understood that he wasn't just trying to make me come.
He wanted to know what I'd accept, and above all, what I'd refuse.
