Chapter 17: Last Hour
The voice in the air came back for one more breath.
"I sent it to everyone I know," the partner said, fast and low. "The picture, the chart, all of it. Watch the launch stream, Wes. They're at the door, I'm..."
The temple went silent.
The square of text over the altar read VISITOR SESSION ENDED BY HALCYON SECURITY.
Wes stood with his hand open where Tamsin's had been.
"They'll have taken their phone," he said. "They'll hurt them."
"They sent it first," Sera said. "That's already out. Locke can't pull back a picture that sixty people have."
"That's not the same as being all right."
"No. It isn't."
She did not tell him it would be fine, and he was grateful for that.

Brigid was waiting at the foot of the tower stair, in her plate, with her arms folded.
She looked at Wes's face once.
"Upstairs," she said. "Both of you."
"We have an hour," Wes said.
"We have an hour and I would like to spend it somewhere other than a wall."
Tamsin laughed and took his other hand.
Brigid's room smelled of candle smoke and oil.
She shut the door and began to unbuckle, plate by plate, while Tamsin went around the room pulling her shirt off over her head.
"Your own body," Brigid said. "All of it. I have not had you like this since the armory."
