Chapter 9: Two Rivers

He had barely cut the engine at the river before I climbed over the bench seat into his lap.

"Tuesday," Ronan said against my mouth. "You told the whole market."

"I told them I'd ride you until you couldn't see," I said.

"I heard."

"Then you know what's coming."

The pickup sat at the end of the gravel lane in the park at Kaw Point, where the Kansas River runs into the Missouri.

Beyond the windshield the water was black, and on the far bank the lights of the old rail bridge hung over it.

I put my knees on either side of his thighs and held his face in both hands.

He kissed me hard, and I could tell he had been waiting all day.

His hands slid up under my sweater and found my bare back, and he pulled me tight against him.

I ground down on the hard length of him through his jeans, and he groaned and tipped his head back against the seat.

"Say my name," I said.

"Lotta."

"Again."

"Lotta," he said. "Lotta."

I yanked my sweater off over my head.

The cold bit my shoulders for a second.

Then his mouth was on my breast, hot and wet through the lace of my bra, and I stopped feeling cold at all.

He unhooked the bra with one hand and drew the strap down my arm with his teeth.

"Look at you," he muttered into my skin. "I can't stop looking at you."

"Then don't stop."

His hand went down between us and found the button of my jeans.

He opened them and slid his palm inside, over my underwear, and pressed.

I was soaked through the cotton.

"Christ," he breathed. "All day?"

"All day. Since the market."

He pushed the fabric aside and slid two fingers into me, deep, and I gasped and gripped the headrest on either side of his head.

"There's my girl," he said. "Let me feel it."

He curled his fingers and worked them in and out, slow and sure, with the heel of his hand rubbing against my clit.
