Chapter 21: Three Times
He did not get as far as the stairs.
The front door of the house on South Lowe shut behind us.
Carmine put me against it by my wrists and kissed me.
"We kept it," I said, between kisses.
"You kept it."
"We kept it."
"Quiet," he said, "and let me thank you."
My coat hit the floor.
His hands went to the buttons of the black dress, and he lost patience at the third and tore the rest.
The little buttons went across the hall tiles.
"Carmine!"
"I'll buy you ten dresses."
"I liked that one."
"I'll buy you that one ten times."
I laughed, and the laugh turned into a moan when his mouth found my breast through my bra.
He pushed the cups down and sucked, hot and hard, with his stubble scraping the soft skin.
The dress hung open at my shoulders.
I clawed at his jacket and shoved it off, and then his tie, and tore at his shirt in return.
Buttons went too.
"We're even," I gasped.
"Not yet."
There was a long dark table in the hall with a lamp and a bowl of keys.
He swept the bowl to the floor with one forearm.
Brass rang across the tiles.
He lifted my left leg and hooked it over the edge of the table.
I stood on one foot against the front door with my thigh open.
"Hold the table," he said.
I gripped the edge behind me.
He opened his trousers.
I was already wet, and he saw it, and made a low sound deep in his chest.
"You've been wet since the moment you said it in that room."
"Since before," I said. "Since the door."
He lined himself up and pushed, and my head hit the wood.
He was big enough to make me gasp, even now.
He filled me and held still.
