Chapter 10: Blood

I came back to myself with his wrist against my mouth and my fangs still in it.

I jerked away.

Blood ran down my chin.

Caleb lay on his back on the bed with the sheet around his hips.

He watched me with a look so raw I could hardly stand it.

"What did you see?" he said.

"My mother."

My father stood on the porch steps with his back to the door and a blood-soaked shirt.

He was not moving.

I felt Caleb's whole body flinch.

Too late, a voice said in his head. Too late.

Near the black circle on the lawn, a huge man had a woman by the hair.
