Chapter 10: First Night

I did not tell him to go.

I crossed the room with the key still warm in my fist and put it on the shelf, where I could find it later.

Idris sat on the edge of my bed now, the quilt gone, his stitched chest bare in the lamplight.

He watched me come.

"You'll tear the seam," I said.

"Then sew me up again."

"You are an idiot."

"Yvaine."

I put my hands on his shoulders and pushed him back until he lay along my bed with his boots still on.

He went down with a groan that had nothing to do with pain.

I climbed over him and sat on his thighs, careful of the line of black thread along his ribs.

He was so big under me that my knees barely reached his hips.

I pulled the pencil out of my hair, and the twist fell open over my shoulders.

His eyes went dark.

"Take off the dress," he said, rough.

"No."

"Yvaine."

"You don't give orders tonight. You lie there and bleed politely."

His mouth twitched, and then his hands closed on my hips and squeezed hard.

I unlaced the dress myself, slowly, because he was staring and I wanted him to stare.

The wool slid down my arms and pooled at my waist.

I had nothing under it but skin.

He made a low raw noise, deep in his chest.

His hands came up and covered my breasts, huge and warm, calloused thumbs dragging over my nipples until they ached.

I gasped and arched into them, and he watched my face.

"Look at you," he said. "You taste like I thought you would."

"You haven't tasted anything."

"I'm going to."

I leaned down and kissed him, open and hungry, and ground my hips down against the hard heat straining in his trousers.

He swore into my mouth.

I reached between us and pulled his belt open, and his cock sprang into my hand, thick and hot and heavier than I had imagined.

I wrapped my fingers around it and stroked once, slow.

He bucked off the quilt.

"Yvaine," he said, and it came out ragged.

"Say it again."

"Yvaine. Please."

I lifted my skirt out of the way and shoved my underthings down.
