"Play it," I said.
Ainslee's thumb stopped over the screen.
"You think I won't?"
"I think you'll play it whether I say yes or no. So play it. I'll be there."
Jess picked up the hose and turned it to full spray, pointed politely at the floor near Ainslee's white boots.
"Watering time," she said.
Ainslee left.
The words followed her out the door.

I went to find Linc.
He was splitting wood behind the gardener's cottage in a T-shirt, in March, because he still didn't own a coat that fit.
I told him about the video.
He set the axe in the block.
"She's been holding that since September," he said.
"She's going to play it first. Before I open the folder."
He looked at the garden wall for a long time.
"Okay," he said.
That was all he said.
I didn't know yet what it meant.
The chapel was full by noon on Saturday.
