Chapter 23: The Bed

Astrid's POV

"Come to bed," I said, with the silver brooch still in my hand.

"The parade is at noon."

"It's ten," I said. "We have two hours, and I want all of them."

I laid the brooch on the sill, where it threw its little spot of light on the ceiling.

Henrik sat down on the edge of the bed.

The sun came through all six windows and lay across the sheets in bars of gold.

I stood in front of him and undid his shirt.

I did it slowly, one button at a time, with the light on his chest.

"Let me," I said, when he reached for me. "Keep your hands on the bed."

He put them on the bed.

I slid the shirt off his shoulders and kissed the hollow of his throat.

Then I kissed the scar along his ribs, from the top to the bottom, with my mouth open and my hand on his hip.

He shivered under my lips.

"What are you doing?" he said.

"I'm learning you," I said. "I learned you in the dark. Now I'm learning you in the light."

I knelt on the floor between his knees.

I took his left hand and turned it over.

I kissed the palm, and the wrist under the bracelet, and the short finger, and I held it against my cheek.

He let out a rough sound.

"Astrid."

"I'm not done."

I opened his jeans and drew them down his legs.

He lifted his hips, and I pulled them off.

He was hard already, heavy against his stomach, and I wrapped my hand around him and looked at him in the sun.

I was no longer afraid to look.

I licked a slow line up the underside of him, from the base to the head, and tasted salt.

His hands closed on the sheet.

I took him into my mouth, slowly, and sucked.

I went down as far as I could and came up again, with my tongue pressed along the vein.

I watched his face the whole time.

His head fell back, and his throat worked.

"God. That's so good."

"Mm," I said around him.

The sound went through him, and his thighs shook.

I took my time.

I sucked him slow and wet and deep, with one hand at the base and the other on his thigh.
