He hung it the next weekend.
He measured four times and still put it an inch too low, and I left it there.
The next June, the sign on County Road 9 said BLUE HOUR & MOSS BROS. FIREWORKS.
Patty painted it herself. The ampersand leans a little to the left. She says that's character.
We kept both lots.
Display shows fire from my side. The magazines and the mixing shed are on his, in the hill his dad dug.
The skiff runs back and forth across the lake ten minutes each way, all day long.
Patty has three new kids this summer, all of them twenty and terrified of her.

The young one runs the barge crew now. He's twenty-three and he grew a mustache to look older. Nobody has told him it doesn't work.
