Chapter 11: Ceiling
The mirror over his bed was twelve feet long, and in it I lay naked on white sheets with a man between my knees.
Dot and the rigging foreman had bolted it to the ceiling that afternoon.
I had walked in, looked up, and seen a woman with her hair spread across a pillow and her lips already parted.
That was five minutes ago.
Now Leighton knelt over me, kissing the soft skin inside my thigh, and I could not look anywhere else.
"Slow," I said. "I want it slow."
"Slow."
He kissed me, and it was nothing like the others.
It was unhurried and deep, his tongue stroking mine in long lazy passes.
His hand moved down my body.
He traced my ribs.
He spread his palm over my belly, the soft curve I had hidden from every lamp for nine years.
He pressed down gently and groaned.
"I could stay here all night," he said.
"Then stay."
"I intend to."
He slid his hand lower and cupped me, not moving, only holding the heat of me in his palm, and I pushed up into it.
"Please."
"Soon."
He kissed his way up my body, one inch at a time, and I watched him do it from above.
He kissed my hip bone, the curve of my belly, the underside of my breast.
He took my nipple in his mouth and drew on it gently.
I arched under him and watched my own body rise to meet his in the glass.
"Tell me what you see," he said, against my breast.
"A woman who wants you."
"Do you know what I see?"
His hands slid down my arms and found my hands.
He laced his fingers through mine and pressed them into the pillow on either side of my head.
"I see the little scar on your left knee," he said. "I found it with my thumb in the elevator yesterday."
"It's from a bike."
"I see the dimple at the base of your spine."
"I see how you shiver when I put my mouth on the inside of your wrist."
He did it.
I shivered.
"I see the line of freckles on your shoulder that goes across like a constellation, and I've counted them. Thirty-one."
"You counted?"
"One at a time. Every night. I've never done that with anyone."
His voice shook, just a little.
I looked at his face in the mirror above us.
His eyes were on my wrists, my collarbone, my mouth.
They moved over me in the glass piece by piece, tender and hungry, and not once did they meet mine.
"I love how you look at me," I said.
"Do you?"
"Nobody ever has. Not like this. I feel like I'm made of something."
He kissed me, long and slow, and it went all through me.
"You're the first one I've ever wanted to learn," he said into my mouth.
I pulled my hands out of his and wrapped my arms around his shoulders and held on.
"Come inside me," I said. "Please. Slowly."
He rolled his hips between my thighs, and the head of his cock slid through my wet and found me.
He pushed in a half inch and stopped.
