Chapter 8: Hands on the Tile
The roof of the Aldrich flagship hotel was empty at midnight.
The heated pool steamed under the whole bright city.
I stood at the edge in a black coat with nothing under it.
Weston came through the roof door in swim trunks and a hotel robe.
He stopped dead when he saw me.
"Take off the robe," I said.
He dropped it.
I let my coat fall open.
His gaze went down me and came back up.
He made a small helpless sound.
I walked past him toward the hot tub at the far end of the deck.
The water was black and hot, with jets churning white along the wall.
I stepped in, and the heat wrapped my legs.
I sank down to my shoulders and sighed.
"Get in," I said.
He climbed in across from me, and the water rose up his chest, and his eyes never left my face.
"Come here."
He crossed the tub in two strides.
I opened my knees and he stepped between them, close, his hands braced on the tiled rim on either side of my head.
Water ran down his shoulders in glittering lines.
"Hands stay on the tile," I said.
"Yes."
"Say it."
"They stay on the tile."
I put my palms on his chest and slid them down his wet stomach.
I pulled his trunks to his thighs.
He was hard and heavy, and I wrapped a hand around him under the water and he shook.
"Lily..."
"Quiet. Look at the skyline."
He lifted his head.
Behind him the lights of Boston stretched across the harbor in long gold lines.
The water slapped at the tub walls.
I stroked him slowly under the surface.
I felt him tighten and jerk in my grip.
I loved being the one who held him, when he had always been the one who held everything.
"I keep thinking about the other night," he said. "The tie. The way you left me."
