Chapter 11: Confidential

"What about Thompson?" Raven said.

He had gone very still on the narrow bed, with Noah's weight on his chest and the desk lamp still burning.

"I can't tell you."

"Then I'll tell you."

Raven sat up, and Noah slid off him onto the blanket.

"He walks out of every locker room zipped to his chin. He swallows a pill from an orange bottle at every break. He never showers, and he does his own physicals." Raven's voice was getting level and cold. "And on Monday I stood in the clinic hall and saw you hand a hooded man a paper bag, and he was holding that bottle."

Noah did not move.

"He's an omega," Raven said.

Noah said nothing.

"Say it."

"I can't."

"Noah."

"I can't, Raven. It isn't mine to say."

Raven got off the bed and stood in the middle of the dorm room in his jeans, breathing hard.

"You've known," he said. "How long?"

Noah looked at the floor.

"Since my third year here. He came to the back window for his refill. I don't know why he chose our clinic. He asked me not to tell anyone, and I said I wouldn't."

"Two years."

"Yes."

"Two years, and you let me walk onto that court tonight with a patch he could rip off." Raven's voice cracked in the middle. "You could have said one sentence. You could have said, watch Thompson."

"If I'd said that, I'd have broken a promise."

"I'm your boyfriend!"
