Chapter 10: Say It at a Table

He came to my door at nine that night with his tie in his pocket.

I opened it before he knocked, because I had been standing behind it for an hour.

"They tabled it," Harrison said. "The vote's postponed two weeks. My mother's proxy hasn't come in, and the chair won't touch the motion without it."

"So you still have a job."

"I have two weeks."

"Good."

I took him by the front of his shirt and pulled him inside.

He kicked the door shut behind us and stopped, breathing hard, with his hands held out from his sides.

"You said unless you asked," he said.

"I'm asking."

"Out loud."

"Touch me, Harrison."

He had me against the wall of the hallway before I'd finished saying his name.

His mouth came down hard on mine, and I was already tugging at his shirt.

Buttons went somewhere on the floor.

I got his shirt off his shoulders and pressed my palms flat to his chest and felt his heart slamming against my hand.

"Twelve years," he said into my neck. "And I never once got to take my time."

"Take it now."

He pushed my sweater up and over my head, and then his mouth was on my breast through the thin cotton of my bra, hot and wet, and my knees nearly went.

I wound my fingers into his hair and held on.

He unhooked the bra with one hand, and the cold air lasted half a second before his mouth closed over my nipple.

I cried out.

He did it again, slower, and I felt it all the way down my spine, a tight pulling ache between my legs.
