Chapter 2: Under Him

Min-jun asks his gentle husband to take him, and Seo-jun's first rut breaks over them both; at dawn Min-jun cannot answer who told him Seo-jun would die.

"Put him in the gatehouse and feed him," Min-jun told the herald. "I will see him at noon tomorrow."

The elders murmured.

Seo-jun said nothing until the meal was over and the hall had emptied.

Then he caught Min-jun's sleeve in the corridor.

"I know who he is."

"I know you do."

"Five years ago you stopped eating for a month because of him." Seo-jun's voice was level. "I'm not asking you to send him away. I'm asking what you want me to do."

"Stay beside me."

"That is all?"

"That is all I have ever needed from you," Min-jun said, and found that it was true.

Seo-jun's mouth opened and closed.

He looked down at the floor and nodded once.

That night the corridors of Wolfhold were quiet, the stove in the bedchamber was banked high, and Yul was asleep in the next room with his boots lined up by the door.

Seo-jun came to bed late.

He sat on the edge of it with his back to Min-jun and rubbed his palms down his thighs.

"Something is wrong with me," he said.

"What?"

"I'm hot. I can smell everything. I can smell you from across the room." He turned his head, and his eyes were dark and unsure. "It's not like any heat I've had."

"It isn't heat."

"Then what is it?"

Min-jun's voice would not carry the real answer, so he gave him a true one.

"It's me. It's what I do to you."

He knelt up behind him on the bed, put both hands on his shoulders, and said what he had practiced in the stable in the dark.

"Tonight I want to be under you."

Seo-jun went rigid.

"You're the alpha."

"I'm your husband. I want to try something new."

"Min-jun."

"Please."

It cost him more than the ten days of kneeling had.

Seo-jun turned all the way around.

His eyes searched Min-jun's face for a joke or a trap, and found neither.

"Tell me if it's too much," he said, very low.

"It won't be."

Seo-jun kissed him.

It was not the soft kiss of the last six years.

It was hungry and clumsy, and his hand went into Min-jun's hair and pulled his head back, and a growl came out of Seo-jun's chest that neither of them had ever heard from him.

Cedar smoke filled the room.

Min-jun's knees gave out and he went down onto the pillows, and Seo-jun came with him, a heavy warm weight pressing him into the mattress.

"Oh," Seo-jun said against his throat. "Oh, that's what I am tonight."

"Yes."

"You smell so sweet."

He tore at Min-jun's sash.

The robe came open, and Seo-jun stopped and stared at the long lean body under him.

Min-jun was already hard, and wet behind it, and ashamed of both.

"Look at you," Seo-jun breathed.

"Don't talk."

"No. I want to." His thumb dragged down over Min-jun's nipple, and Min-jun arched. "You're soaked."

Min-jun turned his face into the pillow.

Seo-jun's hand slid down between his thighs and found the slick there, and he made a sound that was half laugh and half groan.

"You've never been like this."

"Seo-jun." Min-jun's hips jerked. "Don't make me ask."

"I want you to."

"Put your fingers in me."

Seo-jun slid one in, slowly, and Min-jun's breath broke.

A second followed, and a third, stretching him open, and the slick ran down over Seo-jun's wrist and onto the sheet.

Min-jun fisted the blankets in both hands.

He had held a border against two armies with less effort than it took to lie still.

"Does it hurt?" Seo-jun asked.

"No. Don't stop."

"I won't."

He crooked his fingers and found the place inside that made Min-jun see white.

"There," Seo-jun said, watching his face. "That one."

Min-jun cried out, and the sound was shamefully high.

"Say it again."

"Seo-jun, fuck me."

Seo-jun pulled his fingers free and shoved his own trousers down.

His cock was thick and flushed and heavy against his belly, harder than Min-jun had ever known it, with a swell near the base.

Min-jun stared.

"Is that you?"

"It's me." Seo-jun's voice shook. "I don't know how to stop it."

"Don't."

Seo-jun pushed Min-jun's knees back to his chest, lined himself up, and sank in.

It was a slow, stretching, burning press.

Min-jun's mouth fell open on a noise he had never made in his life.

"Breathe," Seo-jun whispered, shaking all over.

"I am."

"You're so tight."

"Move."

Seo-jun moved.

He started slowly and then could not, and his hips drove forward in short hard thrusts that shook the bed against the wall.

Every stroke dragged over the place inside Min-jun and sent a bright jolt up his spine.

He locked his ankles behind Seo-jun's back and held on.

"Harder," he heard himself say.

"Min-jun."

"Harder, I can take it."

Seo-jun's face twisted, and he gave him everything he asked for, slamming into him until Min-jun's cock slapped his own stomach and his voice came out in broken gasps.

He had been the one on top for as long as he could remember.

He had never known it felt like this, to be opened and filled and wanted by the man who had waited six years for him.

"Touch yourself," Seo-jun ground out. "I want to feel you come."

Min-jun wrapped a hand around his cock and pulled, three hard strokes, and came across his own belly with a shout.

His body clenched around Seo-jun.

Seo-jun swore, thrust twice more, and drove all the way in, and the swelling at his base caught and held them together.

He came for a long time, groaning into Min-jun's shoulder, pulsing deep inside him.

Afterward they lay locked together, breathing hard.

Seo-jun's hand stroked up and down Min-jun's side, again and again.

"I don't understand what happened to me," he said.

"I know."

"But I'm not sorry."

Min-jun shut his eyes, and for the first time since the temple he let himself weep without hiding it.

Toward dawn, when the knot had gone down, Seo-jun lay on his side with his arm over Min-jun's waist and spoke softly into the gray.

"You said something yesterday morning when you woke."

"What?"

"You held my wrist and said, you're alive." Seo-jun's fingers flexed against his skin. "Who told you I would die?"

Min-jun opened his mouth.

The words were there: the carriage, the snow, the ravine.

His voice stopped in his throat, and no sound came out at all.
