Chapter 7: Orchard Beach

The fog was so thick in the Orchard Beach lot that I could hear the water but not see it.

It was a Friday night in the first week of March, and the parking lot was empty from end to end.

His gray Ford sat at the far edge of the asphalt with the engine off and the windows steaming.

The beach was closed for the season.

Nobody came here in March.

That was why I had picked it.

"You wanted water," he said.

"I wanted this."

I slid across the bench seat until my knee pressed his thigh.

I put my hand on the buckle of his belt.

He covered my hand with his.

"Drita."

"You said choose."

"I did," he said.

"Then let me."

He looked at me for a long moment in the dim light from the lot lamp.

Then he took his hand away and laid it along the back of the seat behind my shoulders.

I undid the belt and the button.

I drew down the zip, slowly, and it was loud in the closed cab.

He lifted his hips, and I worked his trousers and his shorts down to his thighs.

He sprang free, thick and flushed and ready, and I breathed in.

I had never done this for any man I loved.

I had done it twice, badly, for Ardian, who had said thank you and looked embarrassed.

"I don't know how you like it," I said.

"You'll learn."

"Tell me."

"Slow," he said. "And wet. And look at me."

I bent over his lap.

I took the head of him into my mouth, and the taste was warm and salty and clean.

His whole body jerked.

His hand came down on the back of my head and stayed there, not pushing.

I licked around the head, slowly, and swirled my tongue, and then took more.

I moved my mouth down his length and back up.

I found a rhythm.

I wrapped my hand around the base of him where my mouth did not reach, and I stroked in time.

"Christ," he said. "Your mouth."

I looked up.

He was watching me with his lips parted and his head tipped back against the glass.

I sucked harder, and his hips lifted.

"That's it," he said. "Just like that. Good girl. So good."

I hummed around him, and he groaned out loud.

His fingers tightened in my hair.
