Chapter 17: Partners
The lobby of Colin's firm had a marble floor and a wall of brushed steel with the partners' names on it.
I walked in at 8:55 with Dario one step behind me and a folder in my hand.
Nobody at the reception desk stopped me.
They knew my face by then, from the video, and the receptionist actually stood up.
"Mrs. Hargrove. Mr. Hargrove is... He came in early."
"I know," I said. "I'll wait."
He came out of the elevator two minutes later in a fresh suit, with a banker's box in his arms.
He saw me and stopped.
"Marlena."
"I brought papers."
I held out the folder.
"Divorce, and sole custody of Lily. You get supervised visits at my hospital, with her consent, and only while she wants them."
He put the box down on the marble.
He took the pen from the receptionist's desk without a word.
He signed on top of the folder, against the wall, in front of the whole lobby.
Page after page.
He did not read them.
"I'm bringing the books upstairs," he said, when he had finished. "All of the Sartori files."
