Chapter 10: Bay View

The truck was freezing against my back.

Jesse was not.

He was big and warm and solid all down the front of me, kissing me with deep, fierce intent.

I let go of his shirt and got my hands up into his hair.

It was thicker than it looked. Soft at the back of his neck.

He made a sound low in his chest when my nails touched his scalp.

His hand slid down to my collarbone and stayed there, his thumb moving once across the skin.

I opened my mouth under his.

He tilted his head and took the kiss deeper, slow now.

My whole body went hot.

I pulled him closer by the belt loops.

My brace knocked against his shin and we both laughed against each other's mouths.

"Sorry."

"Don't be sorry," he said into my lips. "Do that again."

I did that again.

His hand found my waist under my coat, under my sweater, flat on my bare skin.

His palm was rough and hot. I could feel every finger.

I arched into it without meaning to.

He kissed the corner of my mouth. My jaw. The spot under my ear that made my knees useless.

"Jesse."

"Mm."

"The crew."

"The crew's watching a hockey game," he said against my neck. "Loudly."

From the TV room someone yelled at a referee.

I laughed again, breathless, and he lifted his head and looked at me.

His eyes were dark. His beard was a mess from my hands.

"Hi," he said.

"Hi."

"I'm not sorry."

"Me neither."

"You're still married."

"I'm married to a man who scores me in a spreadsheet." I flattened my hand on his chest. His heart was slamming. "I filed. It's four months of paperwork. It's not a marriage."

"Okay." He rested his forehead against mine. "Then I want to be clear, so nobody has to guess. I don't want to be a thing you do because you're mad at him."
