Chapter 10: Forty-First Floor

He kissed me against the velvet rope, hard and hungry.

I kissed him back and bit his lip, and he groaned.

My hands went into his hair and his went to my waist.

When the silk gave under his fingers he made a sound I felt in my knees.

"Not here," I said against his mouth. "Someone will walk in."

"Then where."

"Your office."

He took my hand and pulled me through the service corridor to the private elevator.

The doors shut on the two of us, and I shoved him back against the mirrored wall.

"Don't touch me until we're in there," I said.

He put both hands flat on the glass on either side of his head.

His chest was heaving.

I stood in front of him in a green dress with nothing under it.

I watched him hold still, and I knew exactly how much it was costing him.

It was the best feeling I'd had in three years.

The forty-first floor was dark, with the city lit up behind the glass.

Dalton's office door shut behind us.

I turned the lock myself.

"Monica," he said.

"Take your jacket off."

He took it off and dropped it on the chair.

"Tie."

He pulled it loose and let it fall.

"Now you can touch me."

He crossed the room and had me up against the desk before I finished the sentence.

His mouth went to my neck, and his hand slid up my thigh, under the silk, and found me bare.

"Fuck," he said into my skin.

"That's what you get for being on time," I said, and my voice shook.
