Chapter 17: Her Rules

I put the little brass key in his palm and closed his fingers over it with both my hands.

"That's yours," Royce said.

"It's mine," I said. "You took it, so now you hold it. Find out what it weighs."

He lay on his back on his own bed.

His wrists were crossed above his head, and the red nylon was wound twice around the iron rail.

I had snapped the padlock shut on it myself.

He was naked, and already hard.

He hadn't said a word since I told him to take off his clothes.

It was Thursday night, the eighteenth of December, and he had been on time.

I stood at the foot of the bed in my jeans and my work shirt.

I looked at him for as long as I wanted.

"Rules," I said. "Mine."

"Yes," he said.

"You don't speak unless I ask you a question."

"Yes, Mari," he said.

I let a moment pass.

"You don't come until I say."

His chest rose.

"And you watch me," I said. "That's the only thing you do."

I unbuttoned my shirt very slowly, one button at a time, with my eyes on his.

His jaw tightened.

I let the shirt slide off my shoulders and dropped it on the carpet.

I took off my bra and stepped out of my jeans and my underwear.

I stood naked in the lamplight with the red padlock charm lying between my breasts.

He swallowed.

I picked up my bag from the chair and took out a slim black vibrator.

I held it up so he could see.

His breath left him in a rush.

"Don't speak," I said.

I climbed onto the bed and sat back against the pillows at his feet.

My knees were up and wide open, and I faced him.

He could not touch me.

He could not move closer than the length of the nylon.

I turned the toy on, and it buzzed against my palm.

I laid it on the inside of my thigh.

"Mari," he said, hoarse.

"I asked you not to speak."

His mouth closed.

I moved the vibrator up my thigh until it brushed the edge of me.

Then I pressed it flat against my clit.
