Chapter 22: Every Dollar

Becky's POV

The room over the feed store had one chair, one bed, a hot plate and a window that looked at a grain elevator.

I loved it on sight.

Cade stood in the doorway with his keys in his hand.

"It's not much," he said.

"It's quiet."

"The elevator hums at night."

"Then it hums."

I locked the door behind me and pushed him back against it.

His mouth came down on mine, slow and sure, and nothing about it was hurried.

We had never done this with the world shut out.

For the first time there was no motel, no loft, no burned bar, and no clock running.

I undressed him in the yellow light from the window.

I let my hands take their time over every scar I'd only seen in the dark.

The burn marks on his palms had healed to pale shiny skin.

He undressed me the same way, one button at a time, and when I stood in front of him bare, he said, "I wanted to look at you in daylight."

"Then look."

"I am."

His eyes went over me, and nothing in them was borrowed.

I took his hand and led him to the bed, and I pushed him onto his back.

I knelt between his knees.

"Becky, you don't have to..."

"I know I don't."

I took him in my hand, hot and hard and heavy, and bent my head and licked a slow line along the underside.

He sucked in a breath through his teeth.

I took the head in my mouth and swirled my tongue around it, and his hips lifted.

"Christ."

"Is that a yes?"

"It's a please."

I took him deeper, one hand around the base, and set a slow wet rhythm.

His fingers slid into my hair and didn't pull, only held.

His thighs shook under my palms.

"I'm close," he said, raw. "Stop, I want to be in you."
