Chapter 10: Silk
"Hold out your hands," Cal said.
It was ten the next morning, and the sun came through the glass wall in a flat white sheet.
I was naked on top of the grey sheets, with my hair a mess and my body still humming from the night before.
He stood by the bed in black boxer briefs and nothing else.
In his hands were two silk neckties, one midnight blue and one black.
"Why?" I said.
"Because yesterday you asked me to be careful, and I wasn't."
"I liked it."
"I know you did."
He sat down on the edge of the bed.
"So tell me what you want today."
I looked at the ties.
I thought of the shower, and the hand around my wrists, and the way my mind had gone quiet.
"Tie me up," I said.
His eyes darkened.
"Say it again."
"Tie my hands. And the other one." I swallowed. "Put it over my eyes."
"Why?"
"Because I want to feel what you do without knowing what's coming."
He took a slow breath.
"Hold out your hands," he said again.
I held them out, wrists together.
He wound the blue silk around them twice, loosely, and knotted it in a bow I could have shaken free with one pull.
"If you want out, you pull. It's not a trap."
"I know what it is."
"Lie back."
I lay back, and raised my tied hands above my head on the pillow.
He folded the black tie in his fingers and bent over me.
"Lift your head."
I lifted.
He laid the silk across my eyes and tied it behind my skull, and the world went dark.
I heard him move away.
I heard the click of the minibar door, a glass, the clink of something dropping into it.
My heart was pounding.
