Chapter 5: The Doctor
The doctor examined me at five in the afternoon, in the living room, with the door closed and Eladio sitting in an armchair with his arms crossed.
Rosalía stood by the window, holding a tea tray.
A tray on which, beneath the napkin, she had left her phone on, recording.
I knew because she winked her right eye at me before coming in.
"Sit down, son," said the doctor.
I sat.
With a clumsy movement, on purpose, I knocked the plastic cup to the floor.
"Very well. What's your name?"
"Ro… Rodi."
"How old are you?"
"Uh… five."
Eladio let out a little laugh.
The doctor frowned.
"Draw a clock."
He handed me a pencil and a sheet of paper.
I drew a crooked circle, with all the numbers bunched together at the bottom and the hands pointing at the ceiling.
He stared at it for a long while.
