Chapter 8: Storm

The storm took the power out at midnight, and I woke up screaming.

I was sitting up in the dark with my hand clamped over my left shoulder.

There were shadows under his eyes.

"Stay," I said.

"Wynne."

"That's an ask."

He looked down at the floor for a quiet moment.

"My shoulder hurts," I said.

"Which one?"

"The left."

He lifted his hand an inch off his knee and waited.
