Chapter 13: Redline
Sebastian didn't say anything for a long time.
His weight was still on his elbows, and I felt his heartbeat slow against my ribs, then pick up again.
"Page four," he said at last.
"Twelve-point type, middle of the page."
"I typed that page myself."
"I know. You used a serif font. I noticed."
"Olivia."
"Say something that isn't my name."
He rolled off me and lay on his back, looking at the ceiling.
"Then page four goes," he said.
"It isn't that simple."
"It's one line."
"Clause fourteen."
He made a sound that was nearly a laugh.
"I wrote that clause so nobody could talk me into anything fast."
"Written, initialled by both, effective after seven days."
"I know the clause."
"Then you know you can't fix this tonight."
He turned his head on the pillow and looked at me, grey eyes without glasses, tired and steady.
"Then I'll fix it in seven days," he said.
I woke at six to the sound of keys, and the bed was empty again.
