Chapter 12: Your Turn
After supper Wenxuan sent Dai to bed, locked the passage door, and took the general by the wrist.
He did not take him to the bridal room.
He took him through the east wing, past the empty rooms, to the narrow bathhouse at the back.
Dai had stocked it that week with a great copper tub and a stack of clean linen.
Lamps burned along the shelf.
The water was hot, and the room was full of steam, and it smelled of cedar.
"Here?" said the general.
"Here. There is no bedpost."
"I like the bedpost."
"You have been at war with the bedpost for two days." Wenxuan turned the key. "Stand there."
The general stood where he was told, at the edge of the tub, in his plain dark robe buttoned to the throat.
He kept his hands at his sides, and the red had begun to climb before Wenxuan touched the first button.
Wenxuan went slowly.
The general had been careful for two days.
Wenxuan thought it was time somebody else was not.
He undid the collar, then the next, then the next, and kissed each new inch of skin as it came free.
The general's chest rose and fell under his mouth.
"You are not to help," Wenxuan said.
"I am not helping."
"You are about to. Put your hands on the rim."
The general looked at him.
Then, with an expression of great and visible effort, he turned and set both palms on the copper edge of the tub, and held on.
The robe fell off his shoulders.
Wenxuan stood behind him and looked, for a long minute, at the breadth of that back.
There was the old pale seam across the shoulder blade, and the long muscle on either side of the spine.
He put his open hand flat between the shoulders.
The whole body under it trembled.
"Is this what you feel like when I look at you?" he asked.
"Worse."
"Good."
He kissed the seam.
He kissed the line of the spine, down, one knot at a time.
The general's hands on the rim went white at the knuckles, and the copper rang faintly under his grip.
"Wenxuan..."
"You are not allowed to be careful," said Wenxuan.
"I am trying to be quiet."
"Don't."
It was the first time he had heard that voice.
It came out low and broken, and it said his name with no restraint in it at all.
Wenxuan felt it in the pit of his stomach.
He put his arms around the broad waist from behind and pressed his face between the shoulder blades.
He held on for a moment, to steady himself.
Then he turned the general around by the hip.
He took his time with the rest.
He took the little pot of pine salve down from the shelf.
It was Wenxuan's hand that shook this time, not the general's.
He knelt on the wet boards.
He did what he had read about, in the chapter he had pretended not to read.
He wrapped his hand around the base of the general's thick, hard cock and took the blunt head into his hot mouth.
