Chapter 20: Waves

The first wave took Eun-ho in the elevator, the second on the bedroom floor, and by the third he had stopped counting.

Heat after six years of pills is not a fever.

It is a flood that comes in over a wall.

He remembered Si-wan's hands.

He remembered his own voice, hoarse and strange, telling Si-wan things he would never have said aloud in daylight, and Si-wan's, answering them all.

He remembered the nest, rebuilt, bigger than before, with every shirt Si-wan owned and the grey duvet and the black sock that had been in the first one.

Late on the first night, the wave broke.

Eun-ho lay on his side in the wreck of the nest, wet and gasping, with his cheek on Si-wan's thigh.

Si-wan was propped against the headboard, naked, stroking his hair.

He had been doing it for an hour.

"Better?" Si-wan asked.

"Give me a minute."

"I'll give you ten."

"I want to taste you."

Si-wan's fingers stopped.

Eun-ho rolled over, heavy and slow, and looked up the length of Si-wan's body.

Si-wan looked down at him with eyes gone soft and black.

"You're burning up."

"Then put your mouth on me, too."

It took Si-wan a second.

Then he laughed, low, and slid down the pillows until his head was beside Eun-ho's hips and his feet were beside Eun-ho's face.
