Chapter 11: Seven Days

I woke up with a man's arm across my ribs and sunlight on the ceiling.

For a full minute I lay still and listened to him breathe.

The fever was gone.

My wolf lay curled in my chest.

She had not slept that deeply in weeks.

"I'm awake," Ansel said into my hair.

"I know."

"I'm telling you, so you don't have to guess."

I laughed, and turned in his arms.

His eyes were grey again, and sleepy, and he was looking at me.

"I'm going to say what I'm going to do next," he said. "I'm going to kiss you."

"Then?"

"Then I'm going to take you into that shower. After that we'll go down and eat whatever the baker puts in front of us."

"What if I want to do the shower first?"

"Then that's the plan."

The shower in my room was the size of a closet.

He had to duck under the head, and the water ran hot for a few short minutes.

I soaped his chest, and he caught my wrist and pinned it to the tile above my head.

"I'm going to wash your back," he said, in a tone that promised nothing of the kind.

"That's a lie."

"It's a plan that's about to change."

He turned me around.

His hands slid over my wet skin, slow and thorough, and his mouth found the back of my neck.

I braced both palms against the wall.

"Say what you want," he murmured.

"You. Now. Fast."

"Yes, ma'am."

It was hard and quick, with the water going cold on our shoulders.

My laugh broke in the middle of a moan.

He bit my shoulder, and I came with a shout that echoed off the tile.
