Chapter 26: My Father's Count
I stood in the staff room doorway and watched him walk out past the yellow roses.
"Is that true?" the charge nurse said.
"I don't know."
But I sat in Wyatt's truck in the far corner of the lot and couldn't make my hands stop.
If Lacey had lost her pup, there was no race.
There was only my son, and a Council paper, and May.
"He wants you to stop counting," Wyatt said.
"I know what he wants."
"Then don't stop."

Sunday the fourteenth. The pack house. Safe passage on the Alpha's own word.
"No," Wyatt said.
"His own warriors have orders not to touch me till May."
"Your sister sent four wolves into my kitchen."
"In the dark." I folded the letter. "This is daylight, in front of his elders. And I want to see her stomach with my own eyes."
