Chapter 32: My First Love

He carried me over the threshold of his house, which was our house now.

Behind us a tie went flying off somebody's bike, and I knew it was my father's.

I had never been carried anywhere in my life.

I told him so, and he kicked the door shut with his heel.

"Get used to it," Rhett said.

He took me upstairs and set me on the edge of the bed.

For a moment he only stood and looked.

I still wore the treasurer's vest over the white dress.

"Leave that on," he said.

"The dress?"

"The vest."

I unzipped the dress and let it fall.

I stood in front of him in the black leather vest, with nothing under it.

His eyes went over me slowly.

"Hell," he said quietly.

"Come here, husband."

He knelt on the floor and put his hands on my knees and opened them.

His mouth was warm on the inside of my thigh.

He took his time, kissing up toward the place I wanted him, and I tangled my fingers in his hair.

"Rhett."

"Say it."

"Please."

He put his mouth on me.

He licked slow and deep, and I fell back on the bed with my heels on his shoulders.

The leather vest creaked against the sheets.

He didn't hurry.

He worked me up with his tongue and two thick fingers, curling them where I needed.

My hips lifted to meet him.

I came with a sob, saying his name.

He kept going through it, gentle, and then I came again.

"Come up here," I said, shaking. "Please. I want to see your face."

He crawled over me, wincing at his ribs.

I helped him out of the borrowed suit, button by button, and kissed the strapping.

I kissed the old scar on his shoulder blade, the one I had stitched.

When he was bare, I pulled him down between my legs.
