Chapter 26: The Expo

Vicky's POV

The Tri-County Wedding & Floral Expo took up the whole east hall of the convention center.

There were arches of white roses at the doors, and a string quartet by the registration table, and a banner as tall as a house.

Bree Danner Florals. Every Bloom, Handled.

Lorcan held my elbow through the lobby, and I let him, because the walk from the car had already cost me.

"Last chance to go home," he said.

"No."

"I thought I'd ask."

"You asked on the way here," I said. "Twice."

We showed our tickets to a girl in a cream apron.

Her badge said she was a volunteer for the Danner booth.

"Oh," she said, brightening. "Ms. Danner said you'd come. She saved you seats."

"Of course she did."

The seats were in the front row.

They were two white chairs, with a card tied to one of them in a cream ribbon.

I picked the card up.

For my dearest Vic. Heart-healthy bouquets for all. B.

It was on the heavy paper with the faint iris at the edge.

Lorcan read it over my shoulder and said nothing, and his hand came to rest in the middle of my back.

The stage was a low platform with a screen behind it and a podium wrapped in ivy.

Three hundred people sat on folding chairs, mostly women in good coats, with brides' magazines in their laps and phones in their hands.

Two men from a local station stood at the side with a camera.

Near the back, in a row by themselves, I saw the clinic.
