My Fated Mate Chose My Sister, So I Left novel · Chapter 9 of 24

Chapter 9: Gift Bag

The supply truck came up the valley road on Friday with three extra passengers.

I was at the data hut table entering den counts when the tall student put his head through the door.

"Nina. Your sister is here."

I did not move. "My sister is in New York."

"Your sister is in a white puffer coat, shouting that she's your sister."

I went outside.

Giada stood in the mud beside the truck with her ring light, two cameras and a bag of snacks, smiling at the whole camp.

"Surprise!" she sang. "I'm doing a series. Sisters Across the World."

"You can't be here."

"I paid the driver," she said. "He said it was a public road."

"It's a research station."

"Then I'll be quiet." She turned to the camera. "Isn't this beautiful, you guys? My sister is so brave."

The quiet student had folded her arms. The tall one had gone to find Tobias.

I walked up to my sister and lowered my voice.

"Why are you really here?"

"Because Alexander won't talk to me." Her smile didn't move, but her eyes did. "He sits in the infirmary and stares at the wall. The Alpha says it's because of you. So fix it."

"I can't fix it."

"You told the whole airport he asked you to keep the bond. Do you know what that did to us?"

"I told them the truth."

"Take it back," she said, still smiling for the lens. "Say you were angry. Come home and do the stone and let him hold your hand for one afternoon, and I'll delete everything."

"One afternoon of what?"

"Whatever it takes to make him better."

I looked at her. She meant it.

She had no idea what she was asking for, and she hadn't once asked herself why he needed it.
