Chapter 14: Hot Water
Carly's POV
The tub in Milan's bathroom had feet shaped like claws, and it was long enough that he could almost lie down in it.
He ran the water while I stood in the doorway in his flannel shirt.
Gus had followed us up the stairs and lay down across the threshold with a groan.
"He's the chaperone," Milan said.
"He's the only one in this house who hasn't said anything about my father."
"Gus is discreet."
Steam rolled up off the water and fogged the little window over the sink.
Milan shut off the taps and tested the heat with his wrist.
"Arms up," he said.
I put my arms up, and he took the flannel off me and hung it on the hook by the door.
"Now get in. Go to the far end and sit with your back to me."
I stepped over the rim.
The water was so hot that I hissed, and then I sank into it up to my collarbones and my whole spine let go.
I heard him undress behind me.
Boots, belt, the soft thump of denim on the floor.
He stepped in, and the water rose and slopped over the lip onto the boards.
"Lean back," he said.
I leaned, and found his chest, solid and warm, with the gray hair slick against my shoulder blades.
His legs came up on either side of mine.
He put one big arm across my collarbones and held me against him, and for a minute he didn't do anything.
I could feel him hard against my lower back.
I could feel him breathing.
"Here's what I'm going to do," he said at my ear. "I'm going to wash you first."
"That's all?"
"That's the first thing."
He took the cake of soap from the dish on the rim and worked it between his palms.
He started at my shoulders.
His hands were slow and rough and thorough, and they went down my arms to my wrists and back up the insides of them.
He washed my neck.
He washed my breasts, one and then the other, with his thumbs going over my nipples until my head fell back on his shoulder.
