By seven the next morning the clip had four million views.

A woman in the third row had filmed my walk-off, and a stagehand had filmed the corridor before it.

You could see Neil with his forehead against Candace's, and you could see me watching.

The caption read: "Marriage therapist can't save her own."

Miles brought his cereal to the kitchen table and turned his phone face down.

"Don't read the comments," he said.

"I'm already reading them."

"Mom."

"Some of them are kind."

"Most of them are about your coat."

My phone buzzed with a message from Marcy.

"Turn on Harbor Morning. Channel 6. Now."

I turned on the little television by the stove.

It was a small local studio with a yellow couch and a coffee table with a fake plant on it.

Neil sat on the couch in a pale blue suit.

He had put a bandage over the scar on his left hand for sympathy.

The host leaned toward him with a face full of sympathy.

"Mr. Wexford, thank you for coming in after such a hard night."

"Of course." Neil's voice shook, just a little, in the right places. "I'm not here to attack anyone. My wife is a brilliant woman, and she's under enormous pressure."

"The video shows you with a younger woman."

"A colleague. A friend who has been supporting us both through a difficult period." He pressed his lips together. "Joanna has been struggling for months. I tried to get her help. Last night she had a breakdown in front of two hundred people, and she cancelled everything. Our family's income. Our staff's jobs."
