My Mafia Husband Forced Me to Bleed for His Pregnant Mistress novel · Chapter 10 of 24

Chapter 10: You Signed

The Commission met in my own dining room, at my own table, under the chandelier.

I stood where Ugo had pinned me down three nights earlier.

Five long chairs had been set along one side.

The three other Dons sat in the middle of them with their wives behind their shoulders.

Stefano had the fourth chair.

Rocco, as the accused, had the fifth, with his hands folded.

He watched me with his eyes half shut.

Stefano had arrived with eight men and a heavy man in a grey coat.

The doctor stood against the wall in handcuffs, a Ravello guard on either side.

When Rocco saw him, he went still.

"Mr. Lucarelli," the oldest Don said. "This is a Commission trial. Ravello says you broke your oath at your mother's grave. Do you want to answer before your wife speaks?"

"My wife is ill," Rocco said. "She was kidnapped and forced to sign a paper."

"That's a lie," I said.

The oldest Don turned his head.

"Mrs. Lucarelli. Speak."

I took the folded paper out of my bra and put it on the table.

My hand did not shake.

"Three days ago my husband brought his pregnant mistress to our anniversary dinner and ordered me out of my bed," I said. "He swore at his mother's grave that I would be the only woman he ever had. Twelve of you stood in that hall."

Nobody in the room breathed.

"When she began to bleed, he had Ugo Mancuso hold me down on this table. He took two pints. He told the doctor to take all of it."

I held up my arm and pushed back the sleeve.

"On Sunday he signed this, in front of thirty of his men and fourteen of Stefano's. One pint, and I'm free. That same night his men broke an old man's fingers for giving me a car."
