Chapter 7: My Sister in the Garden

Kieran's hand closed on the back of Tristan's collar.

He lifted him off the carpet.

"Touch her hair again," Kieran said, "and I'll give you back your hand in a box."

Tristan's feet barely reached the floor.

The warriors behind him grabbed for their knives.

Craig didn't.

"Enough."

The King hadn't stood up. He didn't need to.

"No blood at my table during Homage week," he said. "Put him down, son."

Kieran held Tristan there for one more second.

Then he opened his hand.

Tristan staggered, caught himself, and straightened his jacket with trembling fingers.

"Your guest rooms are in the east wing," the King told him. "You'll stay until the Homage Moon, like every other Alpha. And you will stay away from my ward."

"She's my mate, Your Majesty."

"Get out of my hall."

Tristan went.

Genevieve followed, one hand on her stomach, eyes on my hair until the doors closed.

Kieran knelt and lifted me off the carpet.

He carried me out a side door, past the kitchens, all the way up to my room, and set me on the bed.

Then he paced.

"Tell me what that was," I said.

He stopped at the window.

"An Alpha's voice is a command to his own pack. He told you that you had no right to reject him. Your wolf was half poisoned. She obeyed."

"And now?"

"Now she's awake. She has to be stronger than his command. Strong enough to break it herself."
