The plan fit on one index card, and my brothers argued over it for two hours.
It was the night before the anniversary.
The Tiburon dining table was covered with seating charts, an invitation in my father's hand, and six white roses in a bucket of water.
The head florist, who now worked for Gallivan Marine and complained about the water pressure, had sold them to Brendan that afternoon.
She said they were the same variety Genevieve had bought every Sunday for two months.
"Each of us carries one," Brendan said.
"We walk in together, behind Nuala, and we don't say a word."
"What if she doesn't crack?" asked the twin who talked.
"Then I take the microphone," I said.
"And we have the letter, but I don't think we'll need it."
"Why?" asked Fergus.
I looked at the roses.
"Because for twenty-five years she has been the only person who knew who was in that grave," I said.
