"There's something you don't know about me," Ren had said, with his body still inside Tomoya's.
Tomoya looked at his terrified face and did the stupidest thing he could think of.
He put two fingers over Ren's mouth.
"Not tonight," he said.
"Tomoya."
"If it's bad, I want one more night before I hear it. If it's good, it'll keep." He swallowed. "Friday. Tell me then, wherever you like."
Ren's eyes closed.
When they opened they were wet, and relieved, and ashamed.
"Anywhere?" he said.
"Anywhere."
"Then the Rosario. Five-oh-seven."
Tomoya laughed, a little cracked.
"The pink one?"
"I want to start where we started."
Friday came with the first hint of spring in the air, a mild evening, the cherry buds fat on the trees along the Shibuya canal.
Tomoya got to room 507 first, as Hotaru always did.
The neon strip was still stuck on pink.
The mirror on the ceiling was still smeared where he had once put a hand up to it.
He sat on the bed, took off his jacket, put his lanyard in his pocket, and waited for the soft click of the door.
Ren came in with a paper bag.
