Chapter 14: The Mill

The swing stopped creaking.

I couldn't remember which one of us had put a foot down.

"You didn't even know me," I said.

"Didn't have to."

"That's a terrible reason to vote against somebody."

"I know it."

He said it so plainly I laughed, and then I couldn't stop looking at his mouth.

There was no window behind us this time.

Granny's light had been off for an hour.

Nobody was watching.

I leaned over and kissed him anyway.

He went still for one second.

Then his hand came up into my hair and the knot at the back of my neck came loose.

My hair fell down over his wrist.

He made a sound low in his chest and kissed me back.

The swing lurched sideways on its chains.

He caught us with one boot and never stopped kissing me.

I climbed into his lap.

I didn't decide to. My body just went.

His hands closed on my hips and pulled me down against him, hard.

He was already hard under me. I rocked once, to feel it, and he swore into my mouth.

"Torrie."

"Shh."

I pulled at the buttons of his flannel.

Three came open. His chest was hot under my palm, and his heart was going.

He slid both hands up under my sweater, all the way up my back.

His rough palms. My bare skin.

He found the clasp of my bra and stopped there, his fingers resting on it.

Asking.

I kissed him harder, which was an answer.

The clasp gave.

His hand came around under the loose cup and covered my breast, and I arched into it so hard the swing chains rang.

He dragged his thumb across my nipple, slow, watching my face in the dark.

I bit my lip to keep from waking Granny.

"Look at you," he said, barely a whisper.
