Chapter 7: The Shower
Orlando straightened up, let go of my shoulder, and returned to his chair with a gentle smile.
He didn’t say another word for the rest of dinner.
But I felt him watching me until the candles went out.
At three in the morning, I couldn’t sleep.
My body was trembling, Ciro’s taste lingered in my mouth, and fear made my stomach clench.
I stepped into the hallway in my nightgown, carrying a towel.
The second-floor bathroom was a spacious room with white tile, a stone shower, and a frosted window.
I turned on the hot water.
Steam quickly filled the room.
I took off my nightgown, stepped inside, and let the spray run over the back of my neck.
I closed my eyes.
I heard the door open and close.
No one spoke.
I felt a colder draft, and then a huge body stepped into the shower behind me.
Two arms wrapped around my waist.
A mouth kissed my neck just below my ear.
"I was waiting for you to come down," Ciro whispered. "I’ve been sitting in the hallway for an hour, listening to you toss and turn."
