Chapter 19: One Week of Not Giving Orders

I gave him my answer on Friday night, on his sofa, with my feet in his lap.

"Yes," I said. "With conditions."

Quentin put down his glass.

"Name them."

"One. Not in the building, ever again. I'll be the owner in a week, and I won't have anyone say the owner got her office by sleeping with the CEO. In the building, you're Mr. Stroud."

"Fair."

"Two. You don't give me orders for a week."

He went completely still.

"A week."

"Seven days. You wait for my orders. You tell me what you want to do to me, and you don't move a muscle until I tell you to."

"And if you don't tell me to?"

"Then you keep your hands in your lap and beg."

His throat moved.

"That's a hard condition, Livia."

"I know." I pulled my feet back, and slid across the cushions, and put my mouth next to his ear. "That's why I picked it."

He made a low sound in his chest.

"I want to kiss you," he said.

"Do it."

He kissed me slowly, and carefully, with both hands in his lap.

I let it go on, and then I broke it off.

"I didn't say you could stop."

"I thought..."

"Say it."

"I want to keep kissing you."

"Go on."

His mouth moved down my jaw, and he stopped at my collar, and I felt him shake.

"I want to take off your dress."

"Slowly."

He undid every button, and he did it with a patience that nearly killed me, because I could see what it cost him.
