Chapter 7: Come Home

He was waiting in the front hall when I came in, still in his suit.

He didn't ask anything.

He took my coat off my shoulders and hung it on the hook, and then he stood there with his hands at his sides.

"Mabel is at a classmate's sleepover," he said. "The nanny took her, and neither of them is back before morning."

"Okay."

"I cancelled my meetings."

"You didn't have to."

"I know." He cleared his throat. "I don't know what you need."

I looked at him, this stiff careful man in a house full of crayon bridges, and something in my chest came loose.

"I need you to take over," I said. "Just for tonight. I'm so tired of being the one who decides."

His eyes went dark.

"Upstairs," he said.

His bedroom was grey and quiet, with a huge bed and a window over the park.

He shut the door and turned the lock.

Then he stood in front of me and took my face in his hands.

He kissed me slowly.

"Lift your arms," he said.

I did.

He pulled my sweater over my head and dropped it on the floor, then unhooked my bra with two fingers and let it fall.

His breath went out of him.

"Look at you," he said, hoarse.

His palms covered my breasts, warm and heavy, and his thumbs rubbed across my nipples until they ached.

I whimpered.

"Quiet," he said, but he was smiling against my neck. "Or the neighbors will know I'm good at this."

"Are you?"

"Get on the bed and find out."

He undressed me the rest of the way, jeans, panties, every layer, and laid me on the grey sheets.

Then he knelt between my legs and held my thighs apart with both hands.

"Stefan."
