Chapter 4: The Playboy

By second period, the kiss had a name.

"The Foyer Incident," Roisin said, sliding into the seat beside me in AP Chemistry. "It's trending in the senior group chat."

"There's a senior group chat?"

"There are four. I'm in three. You're in none, because you're a good person."

I opened my notebook and tried to look like a girl who'd never been kissed in front of two hundred people.

My lips still felt warm.

That was annoying.

"Okay, but real talk," Roisin whispered. "Do you know what he is?"

"He's a Playboy."

"They're rich, they're on every team, and everyone says they bet on girls like it's the horse track."

"Everyone says a lot of things."

"Bobbie. They have a name for themselves. The Playboys. It's on a banner in the boathouse."

He did not look at the substitute.

He walked straight to the empty stool beside mine and sat, and the whole room tipped toward us.

"Did you do this?" I whispered.

"I asked to be switched."

"You're failing chemistry."

"I'm not failing chemistry," Jude said. "I'm bored in chemistry. There's a difference."

"Your lab report from October was a drawing of a duck."

"It was a detailed duck."
