Chapter 24: Betony and Lenna
The queen's chamber at Blackwater had a bed the size of a ferry.
Someone had lit every candle in the room, and the lake wind came in through the shutters and made them lean.
I stood in the middle of the rug in my green coronation gown, with the circlet still crooked on my head.
I had been Lenna for less than a week, and queen for seven hours.
Osian shut the door and stayed against it.
He had taken off his coat, and the silver cuff was gone from his wrist, and the pale band showed in the firelight.
"Come here, Your Majesty," he said.
"Make me."
His eyes went gold.
He crossed the floor in three strides, and I yelped when he picked me up and threw me on the bed.
He took the circlet off and set it on the pillow, very carefully.
Then he put his hands on the laces of my gown.
"Sixty-one," he said. "Maud counted them for me. She says if I tear one she'll hear about it."
"Then don't tear one."
"I'll untie every one of them."
He did it slowly, with his mouth following his fingers down my spine.
By lace forty I had stopped being able to breathe.
By lace sixty I was begging, and he laughed against my skin and said, "Not yet."
