In July we were living in a rented yellow house on the lake road outside Plattsburgh, two miles from the memory-care day program.

The van picked her up at eight, and she waved to me from it every morning.

Neil was back on the poles for the power company out of Plattsburgh.
He'd moved into the yellow house in June with a duffel bag, his red hat and a coffee can of tools.
My mother asked him every day if he was the man about the gutters.
