Chapter 13: Footage

Nobody said anything.

Torin ran it back and played it again.

The vial. The finger. The one slow stir.

Then Dwight wiped his finger on a cocktail napkin and walked back into his own party, smiling at somebody.

"He used his finger," Kipp said. "He stirred her drink with his actual finger."

Zane sat down hard on the arm of the couch.

Gage hadn't moved.

He stood behind the couch with both hands on the back of it, watching his father on a laptop screen.

"Again," he said.

Torin played it again.

Gage watched the whole thing without blinking.

Then he walked to the kitchen sink, turned on the cold water and put his whole head under it.

I went and stood beside him.

I didn't touch him.

I waited until he came up with water running down his neck and into his collar.

"My mom made that lemonade," I said. "She thinks I took something."

"Then show her." He wiped his face with his forearm. "She's the one person he can't fire, can't sue and can't throw out."

Torin was already copying the clip onto three drives.
