Chapter 13: The Council Seat
Leander stood up at the long stone table, and the camera in the gallery zoomed in on him.
He was in a plain dark suit.
No tie. No ring. His hair was combed for once.
"I'll be brief," he said. "Some of you have been waiting two years to hear me say something you could vote on."
A few of the Alphas laughed.
He didn't.
"An hour ago I sold my boat."
My partner put down his coffee.
"The big white one?" he said. "The one from the magazine?"
"Shh," said Rupert.
"The money goes to a medic station in the foothills," Leander said on the screen. "Humans and lycans, same bays, same rig. Run by the people who already know how. I've signed it over. I don't get a seat on its board. I don't get my name on the door. I don't get anything."
The gossip host cut in over him.
"A yacht for an ambulance. Is the playboy prince trying to buy his way back into the paramedic's bed?"
My partner switched the TV off.
Nobody said anything for a while.
"I told him," Rupert said finally, very small. "About the girl from Greenwater. I called him from the clinic at ten. I didn't know he'd do that."
